Security & Safety Lighting in Portland, OR
Security lighting done badly makes a property less safe, not more. A single harsh floodlight over a driveway blinds anyone approaching, throws deep black shadows on either side of the beam, and gives someone better places to stand unseen than they had in the dark. PDX Outdoor Lighting designs security and safety lighting on the opposite principle: even, moderate, well-distributed light with no deep shadows and no glare.
The design goal is uninterrupted visibility across the approaches to your property — entries and doorways, the driveway and garage, gates, side yards, the paths between buildings, and any corner that currently reads as a dark void. Layered low-voltage lighting achieves that far better than a couple of high-output floods, because a dozen modest, well-aimed fixtures produce continuous coverage while two bright ones produce two bright patches and a lot of contrast for eyes to fail against.

What Our Clients Say
“Other quotes were a fixture count on paper. These guys walked the yard, explained what each light was doing and why, and the plan matched what we got.”
Landscape & Garden Lighting
Mark R.
Lake Oswego
“Our 1912 Craftsman vanished after dark. They lit the columns and the gable and left everything between them dark. The contrast is the whole thing.”
Architectural & Facade Lighting
Jennifer L.
Irvington, Portland
“Steep lot, and the walk down was dangerous in the wet. Staggered path lights plus lights in the step risers — fewer fixtures than we were quoted elsewhere, better result.”
Path & Walkway Lighting
David S.
West Linn
“Half our system had been dark for two years. They found it in twenty minutes — corroded connectors — and told me the transformer was fine. Could have sold me a new one.”

It should also still look like a home. There's no reason security lighting has to be ugly or institutional, and in practice the same warm architectural and landscape lighting that makes a property beautiful also makes it visible, occupied-looking, and unappealing to approach unseen. We build systems that do both jobs at once — with motion-triggered zones where you want an active response, on top of a base layer that runs from dusk to a set hour.

More About Our Security & Safety Lighting Work
Portland's long winter nights make this more relevant here than in most of the country. From November through February, most people arrive home in full darkness, and the walk from car to front door is the moment that matters — for safety on wet steps as much as for security. A well-lit approach, an entry you can find your keys at, and no dark blind corner beside the garage cover the realistic risks far better than a motion flood that mostly triggers on cats.
We design and install security and safety lighting for homes and businesses across Portland, Gresham, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Milwaukie, and the surrounding metro. Contact PDX Outdoor Lighting for a free assessment.
Our Process
How We Work
Free Design Consultation
We walk your property with you, talk through what you want the space to feel like after dark, and note the trees, architecture, and pathways worth lighting — no pressure, no obligation.
Your Lighting Plan
We put the design on paper fixture by fixture — what gets lit, from where, with which beam spread — and price it as a fixed proposal. Nothing is ordered and no deposit is taken until you've approved it.
Clean, Low-Voltage Install
Our crews hand-dig and tuck 12-volt cable below grade, set transformers discreetly, and mount solid brass and copper fixtures — with your lawn and beds left the way we found them.
Night Aiming & Ongoing Care
We return after dark to aim every fixture by eye, set your timer or app schedule, and walk the finished system with you — then keep it dialed in with optional annual maintenance.
