Landscape Lighting in Milwaukie, OR
Milwaukie is one of the older cities in the metro, and most of its housing predates 1970. That gives landscape lighting here an advantage newer suburbs can't match: the trees are mature. Milwaukie yards are full of established firs, maples and ornamentals with real form, and those are the best lighting subjects in the region.
The lots themselves are typically narrow, with tight access between houses and planting close to the work area. We hand-tuck cable rather than trenching, work carefully around established root zones, and leave beds the way we found them. Closer to the Willamette and along Johnson Creek, we take extra care with transformer placement and connections, because those low-lying lots stay saturated through the winter.
Local Know-How
What Matters in Milwaukie
Mature trees as the centerpiece
Established Milwaukie trees are ideal for uplighting and moonlighting. One well-lit tree can define a narrow lot better than a row of path lights.
Tight lots, careful installs
With planting close to the house and little room to work, cable is hand-tucked rather than trenched, and root zones are protected.
Wet ground near the river
Near the Willamette and Johnson Creek, transformers sit above the wet ground and every connection is sealed and burial-rated.
Reviews
What Homeowners Say
“Other quotes were a fixture count on paper. These guys walked the yard, explained what each light was doing and why, and the plan matched what we got.”
Landscape & Garden Lighting

Lake Oswego
“Our 1912 Craftsman vanished after dark. They lit the columns and the gable and left everything between them dark. The contrast is the whole thing.”
Architectural & Facade Lighting
Jennifer L.
Irvington, Portland
“Steep lot, and the walk down was dangerous in the wet. Staggered path lights plus lights in the step risers — fewer fixtures than we were quoted elsewhere, better result.”
Path & Walkway Lighting
David S.
West Linn
“Half our system had been dark for two years. They found it in twenty minutes — corroded connectors — and told me the transformer was fine. Could have sold me a new one.”

How It Works
From Consultation to Installed
Free Design Consultation
We walk your property with you, talk through what you want the space to feel like after dark, and note the trees, architecture, and pathways worth lighting — no pressure, no obligation.
Your Lighting Plan
We put the design on paper fixture by fixture — what gets lit, from where, with which beam spread — and price it as a fixed proposal. Nothing is ordered and no deposit is taken until you've approved it.
Clean, Low-Voltage Install
Our crews hand-dig and tuck 12-volt cable below grade, set transformers discreetly, and mount solid brass and copper fixtures — with your lawn and beds left the way we found them.
Night Aiming & Ongoing Care
We return after dark to aim every fixture by eye, set your timer or app schedule, and walk the finished system with you — then keep it dialed in with optional annual maintenance.
Questions
Landscape Lighting in Milwaukie: FAQ
Is landscape lighting a good fit for a narrow Milwaukie lot?
It's often a very good one. Narrow lots usually have a few mature trees and a clear path from street to door, and lighting those well — rather than adding fixtures everywhere — gives a lot of effect for a modest system.
How much does landscape lighting cost in Portland?
Pricing follows the design — fixture count, transformer size, cable runs, and material. A focused front-yard design with a handful of tree uplights and path fixtures starts in the low thousands; a full wraparound system with multiple zones costs more. Your written proposal breaks out per-fixture pricing so you can scale zones up or down and see exactly what changes.
Why low-voltage instead of standard 120-volt lighting?
Low-voltage 12V systems are safer to work around, far easier to adjust or expand later, and don't require the conduit and permitting that line-voltage work does. The transformer steps household current down at one point, and everything beyond that is low-risk cable you can garden around. It's the standard for residential landscape lighting for good reason.
Will digging the cable damage my lawn and beds?
No. We hand-cut a narrow slit in the turf, tuck the cable below grade, and close it behind us — within a week or two you can't tell where we worked. We route around root zones rather than trenching through them, which matters a lot on Portland lots with mature trees.
What color temperature do you use?
2700K warm white on essentially everything. It flatters bark, stone, and foliage, and it reads as inviting rather than clinical. Cooler temperatures around 4000K make plants look grey and green foliage look sickly. We also keep the temperature consistent across the whole system — mismatched fixtures are the fastest way to make a yard look pieced together.
