Landscape Lighting · Gresham

Landscape Lighting in Gresham, OR

Gresham's east-county position gives it a noticeably different climate from inner Portland. East wind funnelling out of the Columbia River Gorge makes winters colder, with sharper freeze-thaw cycling — exactly the conditions that crack plastic fixtures, cloud lenses and work moisture into cheap connections. Landscape lighting here has to be specified for the winter, not just the summer evenings.

Much of Gresham's housing dates from the 1960s through the 1980s, so many yards have mature trees and established planting that are excellent to light. On the newer subdivisions toward the south and east edges of the city, the landscaping is younger and the design leans more on a few key trees and the paths.

Local Know-How

What Matters in Gresham

01

Built for freeze-thaw

Solid brass fixtures and sealed, burial-rated connectors stand up to Gresham's east-wind winters. Plastic fixtures and twist-on connectors are what we replace most here.

02

Mature trees in older neighborhoods

Established Gresham yards in areas like Rockwood and Centennial often have large trees with real form — the best subjects for uplighting and moonlighting.

03

Younger landscapes on the edges

In the newer subdivisions, a few well-lit trees and a good path carry the design, with capacity left to add more as the planting matures.

What Homeowners Say

June 2026
“Other quotes were a fixture count on paper. These guys walked the yard, explained what each light was doing and why, and the plan matched what we got.”

May 2026
“Our 1912 Craftsman vanished after dark. They lit the columns and the gable and left everything between them dark. The contrast is the whole thing.”

April 2026
“Steep lot, and the walk down was dangerous in the wet. Staggered path lights plus lights in the step risers — fewer fixtures than we were quoted elsewhere, better result.”

“Half our system had been dark for two years. They found it in twenty minutes — corroded connectors — and told me the transformer was fine. Could have sold me a new one.”

How It Works

From Consultation to Installed

01

Free Design Consultation

We walk your property with you, talk through what you want the space to feel like after dark, and note the trees, architecture, and pathways worth lighting — no pressure, no obligation.

02

Your Lighting Plan

We put the design on paper fixture by fixture — what gets lit, from where, with which beam spread — and price it as a fixed proposal. Nothing is ordered and no deposit is taken until you've approved it.

03

Clean, Low-Voltage Install

Our crews hand-dig and tuck 12-volt cable below grade, set transformers discreetly, and mount solid brass and copper fixtures — with your lawn and beds left the way we found them.

04

Night Aiming & Ongoing Care

We return after dark to aim every fixture by eye, set your timer or app schedule, and walk the finished system with you — then keep it dialed in with optional annual maintenance.

Questions

Landscape Lighting in Gresham: FAQ

Does Gresham's colder winter weather affect landscape lighting?

Yes. The east wind out of the Gorge brings harder freeze-thaw cycling than inner Portland, which cracks plastic fixtures and drives moisture into poor connections. We use brass fixtures and sealed, burial-rated connectors specifically so systems survive it.

How much does landscape lighting cost in Portland?

Pricing follows the design — fixture count, transformer size, cable runs, and material. A focused front-yard design with a handful of tree uplights and path fixtures starts in the low thousands; a full wraparound system with multiple zones costs more. Your written proposal breaks out per-fixture pricing so you can scale zones up or down and see exactly what changes.

Why low-voltage instead of standard 120-volt lighting?

Low-voltage 12V systems are safer to work around, far easier to adjust or expand later, and don't require the conduit and permitting that line-voltage work does. The transformer steps household current down at one point, and everything beyond that is low-risk cable you can garden around. It's the standard for residential landscape lighting for good reason.

Will digging the cable damage my lawn and beds?

No. We hand-cut a narrow slit in the turf, tuck the cable below grade, and close it behind us — within a week or two you can't tell where we worked. We route around root zones rather than trenching through them, which matters a lot on Portland lots with mature trees.

What color temperature do you use?

2700K warm white on essentially everything. It flatters bark, stone, and foliage, and it reads as inviting rather than clinical. Cooler temperatures around 4000K make plants look grey and green foliage look sickly. We also keep the temperature consistent across the whole system — mismatched fixtures are the fastest way to make a yard look pieced together.
